This is an ideal 'Back to School' project ...or great for all year round.
Make this craft project ..useful, good for
classroom vocabulary and can be used with other 'Back to School' projects on this blog.

Materials

-Coloured kitchen cloths
-Pencil
-Scissors
-Glue ('Pritt-Stick' is ideal)
-Tape ('Scotch' tape is ideal)
-Ruler
Stage 1
-The kitchen cloths are usually folded into quarters. The ones I used were 18cm by 20cm. I used 20cm for the width of the pencil case but used one folded half piece for 2 models. Cut in half for 2 pencil cases.
-Once cut, keep folded but measure 8cm off one half and cut off. The extra length on the other half of the folded cloth will be the front cover.
 Stage 2
-On the fold, measure vertical lines -I used spaces of 4cm (perfect for 20cm width).
-Cut vertical lines from the fold (making sure not to cut the entire length of the shorter side).
Stage 3
-Cut 4cm by 20cm strips in a different colour. The excess cut off earlier could be used for a different-coloured pencil case ...you could use the other coloured cloths in the pack or use paper.
-Weave 2 of the strips on the front of the case, and 2 of the strips on the back (weave each strip in alternate directions).
Stage 3
-Once the strips are woven into the case, cut away 2 vertical rectangles from the front cover to leave a small tab. This creates  a small flap to slot into a woven strip on the front in order to fasten the pencil case (See above photo, too).
Stage 4
-Stick the sides of the pencil case together with tape to secure it.
Stage 5
-Decorate the front cover ...and fill with pencils and pens!
Enjoy the new school year!
